North Carolina Teaching Fellows

• Receive to $4,125 per semester for up to eight semesters.
• Study at a premier educator preparation program in North Carolina.

• Secure loan forgiveness by teaching in a Special Education or STEM field in a North Carolina public school, traditional or charter.

To be eligible you have to meet these three requirements:

Get accepted.

Get accepted into a teaching program leading to a teaching license in STEM or special education at one of the partner schools listed below.

Be one of the following.

• A North Carolina high school senior (you can use the award up to 4 years)
• A student applying to transfer to a teaching program at a Teaching Fellows partner schools (you can use the award up to 3 years)
• A student who already attends a Teaching Fellows partner school and enrolls in a teaching program (you can use the award up to 2 years)
• An person with a bachelor’s degree who enrolls in a teaching program at a partner school (you can use the award up to 2 years)

Meet the minimum academic requirements.

• If you're in high school or have fewer than 24 hours of college credit, you'll need a minimum unweighted high school GPA of 3.0 and have scored at least a 24 on the ACT or a 1170 on the SAT.
• If you have more than 24 hours of college credit, you'll need a minimum 2.7 cumulative GPA.

Fill out an application with your personal and academic information, along with your high school or college transcripts and test score reports, as needed. An essay and experience section must also be completed.

Once submitted, all applications undergo an initial screening and review. An email will notify you if you have been selected for a finalist interview. During the interview, you will be asked questions about your background and experience; your interest in teaching; and how you would handle scenarios involving typical challenges that a teacher would face in their classroom.
